I suck at writing[^1].

[^1]: In comparison to people I respect and admire.

I want to get better.

I want this personal website to help build up a habit of writing[^2]. Many people choose to copy their writing into a large language model nowadays and get out seemingly fine prose. But I do care about being a good writer. I want to be able to write engaging essays that inspire and grip the reader. This website will regularly host my attempts. I want to identify my weaknesses and document the process of improving my writing. A side benefit of this process, I hope, is that I develop a better mind for constructing compelling arguments. I want to explore linguistics and find out how to improve my narrative construction and brevity.

I've done writing on this website before, for example the posts on the Steam Machine and the PAYE system. Both were serviceable experiments for writing on a website[^code], but made for terrible reading. Neither had a narrative to draw people in and hold them long enough to learn the techniques[^3].

[^code]: Getting code blocks to work correctly took some interesting problem-solving.

[^3]: Especially the PAYE system post. Looking back, I did not have the competence to write on this topic in a useful way.

Truthfully, I just wish to create. Putting my thoughts down in writing will help me construct better stories. I love seeing people's eyes light up when they finally get the idea, and placing the idea within a frame that works well makes it all the more satisfying.
