Color Pizza

Today I came across Color Pizza by David Aerne. The website showcases a curated selection of colours David has collected over the past decade working as a computation designer.

The goal of Color Pizza, as far as I can tell, is to be a fluid interactive display of color information. The website allows users to go through the different topological shapes. Conventional digital color format’s have certain natural topologies that Color Pizza allows navigation about in an intuitive way.

Another point that I find interesting is the generative pixel art the website uses to represent the color swatches. Generative art can be corrosive for communities, the usage in this case seems almost procedural. The best comparison I can make is the Pokémon fusion fan game where there are procedurally generated fusion sprites. The scale of the selection of colours being in the 30,000+ range means that there is necessarily and limit to the amount of handcrafted art. I also think that the top sponsor being the owner of the generative pixel art tool makes the utilisation more understandable.
