I’m Angus, a mathematician who appreciates physical systems, information theory, and science communication. I specialise in constructing data driven models from large datasets, building complicated numerical simulations, and writing code for high performance computing. I practice the dark arts with CUDA, Rust, SwiftUI, and React/TS; from number crunching to visualisation. What gets me out of bed in the morning is assembling systems that take into account real world limitations, solving other people’s problems, and applying new research to old problems.
While my strength lies in novel technologies, I have put in the hard yards communicating effectively to a wide variety of backgrounds from my time teaching at my alma mater’s mathematics department. I love the challenge of acting as a bridge between technically competent thinkers and business focused individuals (not to say there isn’t overlap!). I have first-hand experience of the usefulness of multiple sets of eyes on the same problem illuminating it from different angles.
Beyond modelling and communication, I also focus on maintaining continuity. I appreciate working in collaboration with domain experts to understand the transition between the new and old.
